DESCRIPTION
David LaChapelle (1963) began his famous career with photography for Andy Warhol's magazine Interview. Because of his innovative approach, LaChapelle quickly became one of the most influential photographers in the world. His spectacular, colorful and often controversial portraits of celebrities have become archetypal symbols of our time. This first major solo exhibition in the Netherlands highlights, with over 70 works, various disciplines from the artist's oeuvre. This extensive overview also introduces LaChapelle's latest series New World , in which he tries to photograph the "ungravable" in a search for paradise.
Expect spectacular portraits - from Andy Warhol to Miley Cyrus - but also strong compositions, striking colors and beautiful nude in the exhibition LaChapelle: Good News for Modern. For the first time, the world-famous photographer David LaChapelle shows his work in the Netherlands and that with more than 70 works. The Groninger Museum shows the diversity of LaChapelle, by highlighting a different period in his career in each room. LaChapelle's photographs tell stories, which he creates in a unique way. For example, everything you see on the photos is put in scene by the artist; there is no Photoshop involved. And did you know that LaChapelle manipulates the negatives of his photographs by hand? If you look closely, you can even see his fingerprints here and there!
