DESCRIPTION
Sala de Bóvedas of the Casa de la Panadería shows an exhibition that tells a story of the 16 days in November of 1936 when the people of Madrid rose against the fascism and the armed troops in the siege of the capital. This event is part of the program commemorating the 400th Anniversary of Madrid's Plaza Mayor.
Photographs, posters, films and unpublished documents make up the exhibition 'No pasarán', which narrates the 16 days of November 1936 in which the people of Madrid stood up against the rebel troops, "against fascism" and "for freedom" .
This show, whose protagonists are the anonymous Madrilenians, will be the first one directly managed by the Office of Human Rights and Memory of Madrid City Council. The exhibition centers its story on the collective behavior of the people of Madrid and on the different aspects that marked the more than two weeks of the defense of Madrid. Its curators are the historian and university professor specialized in the Civil War and the anti-fascist militias Gonzalo Berger and the writer, cultural manager, producer and film director Tània Balló.
The choice of the Plaza Mayor for its location is not coincidental: in addition to coinciding with the celebrations of its fourth centenary, the exhibition will be located a few meters from the place where the iconic "No pasarán" banner was erected on Toledo Street.
The exhibition is housed in the Vault room of Casa de la Panadería (the House of the Bakery).
From Monday to Sunday from 1000hrs to 2000hrs.
