DESCRIPTION / BIOGRAPHY
Antonín Kratochvíl is Czech-born American photojournalist and founder member of the VII photo agency. Kratochvil was born in 1947 in Litom ice, Czechoslovakia. He gained a BFA in Photography from Gerrit Rietveld Academie, Amsterdam.

As a photojournalist his work has covered a wide range of subjects from war in Afghanistan, Iraq and and conflict in Haiti. His first book, entitled Broken Dreams, published in 1997, shows images of the crumbling eastern bloc countries including Romania, Ukraine and around the radioactive area of Chernobyl. Much of his work is shot in a fairly bleak and gritty style, frequently in black and white.

His book Incognito, published in 2001 that showcased Kratochvil's portraiture, shot in the same abstract style that he uses in much of his photojournalism.
