DESCRIPTION / BIOGRAPHY
Daido Moriyama was born in 1938. He studied photography in Osaka moving to Tokyo in 1961 to assist the Japanese photographer Eikoh Hosoe.

His freelance career started in 1964, his body of work dealing with the forgotten and darker side of cities. In 1967 he was awarded the New Artist Award from the Japan Photo-Critics Association.

Moriyama's largely black and white photographs have captured the breakdown in Japan's traditions and life during and following the American occupation of Japan after World War II.

Moriyama has global recognition, and has held numerous solo and group exhibitions worldwide. He has published a variety of photobooks and photo-essays and his work is held in collections, both public and private.

In 2012 he was awarded with the Infinity Award, Lifetime Achievement category, from the International Center of Photography in New York.
