DESCRIPTION
The National Library is one of several agencies within the Australian Department of Communications and the Arts. The Library’s role, as defined by the National Library of Australia Act 1960, is to ensure that documentary resources of national significance relating to Australia and the Australian people, as well as significant non-Australian library materials, are collected, preserved and made accessible either through the Library itself or through collaborative arrangements with other libraries and information providers.

Photographic exhibitions are sometimes held, and in addition the library has acquired the archive of transparencies of famous Australian photographer Peter Dombrovskis (1945-1996) so that future generations may view and enjoy his photography.

The Library is located on Parkes Place in the central Canberra suburb of Parkes in the Parliamentary Triangle.
